On behalf of the Home and School, welcome to the new school year at M. Gerald Teed!
It will be another busy year for the Home and School! We will be sending home an information sheet this week for you to complete and return to school to give you the opportunity to help out, as well as make sure you are aware of all of the activities going on.
Please complete it, and return to your child’s teacher.
What is the Home and School?
The group of parents who volunteer their time to make sure our children’s learning experience is the best it can be! The Home and School executive for this school year includes:
Co-Chairs: Karen Kennedy ([email protected]) and Heather Stephen ([email protected])
Secretary: Marlene Dewar
Finance: Krista Foster
We will have some shoes to fill starting next year (September 2015), as our executive will be moving on after 3 years in our roles! We are looking for motivated parent volunteers to fill these positions, and are committed to a“job-shadowing” period through this year to make the transition easier for everyone! We invite you to contact any of us for more details!
What we do:
We support the children’s learning through different activities at the school, using fundraising activities to support the cost. This year, these include: monetary support for a Science Day at the school; family movie nights; “Fun Days” at the school, December Holiday Fair, Year End Field Day; School Bus Safety Week and Teacher Appreciation Week; financial support to the school for learning tools. We also plan to be involved in the Drive One for PALS and the Port Community Day by providing parent volunteers to help make these days possible.
Why join?
To GET INVOLVED in your child’s education! Our success depends on building a team of parents who want to help out. We have many things planned, and welcome your ideas and input. “Volunteering” can come in different forms: drafting an e-mail or letter, assisting with preparing crafts for the students, coordinating food/beverages, offering your diverse cultural experiences, or lending a few hours of your time to help out at an event. The more people involved, the better!
Our first general meeting will be later this month. We are firming up a date and will let you know when it will be held. We invite you to come and participate with your ideas and input!
We are excited to work with each of your families to make this a great year for our children!
